SUMMARY:November Lunch - Catherine Spencer New CEO of Seafarers UK
DESCRIPTION:Guest speaker Catherine Spencer the New CEO of Seafarers UK \nBookings now open \nOur lunch tickets cost £50 per person. \nProfile Catherine:\nCatherine Spencer has been appointed the new Chief Executive of Seafarers UK. She took over the helm from Commodore Barry Bryant CVO RN following his retirement after 17 years of service. \nCatherine Spencer has spent the last three years as Director of Communications and Change Management at icddrb\, a complex international health research organisation based in Dhaka\, Bangladesh. Prior to this Catherine spent seven years at the Army Families Federation in senior management positions\, including three as Chief Executive. During her tenure at icddrb Catherine worked with key donors\, technical experts\, government departments and international organisations\, whilst playing a pivotal role in developing and implementing the charity’s organisational strategy. \nWhilst leading the Army Families Federation Catherine represented soldiers and their families during particularly difficult times for defence\, ensuring that the needs of an overlooked but vital community were understood at ministerial level and contributing to better support to soldiers and their families. Catherine was also a Trustee and council member of a wide range of grant-giving and advocacy organisations.\nCatherine Spencer said: “I am honoured to have been chosen to lead Seafarers UK during an exciting new chapter for the charity\, and as so much is changing in maritime welfare and the wider maritime sector as a whole. Some elements of the challenges facing seafarers and their families are familiar to me as the wife of a serving solder; I hope to combine my personal experience of enduring routine separation\, understanding a dangerous physical working environment and working hard for the betterment of my community\, with my professional experience of advocating to government and stakeholders to deliver change.\n“I will ensure the efforts of everyone with an interest in the maritime community are harnessed to improve the lives of those who work at sea and their families\, and in helping those supporting seafarers.”

The event was a huge success raising awareness at the highest possible levels contributing to the successful release of those who were unjustly imprisoned. \nThe event made a positive difference. \nThis year\, on Wednesday 11th September 2019\, we are once again joining with our Liverpool sister club for an evening reception event at the Little Ship Club situated next to the river in the heart of our maritime city. \nWe will be focussing on how we get the mariners of tomorrow and improve the lives of people in the industry. We will be supporting two charities\, The Tall Ships Youth Trust more here (our nominated charity) and M.A.S.T (Liverpool’s nominated charity). We will be hearing first-hand testimony from a young person telling us how The Tall Ships Youth Trust changed this young person’s life with sailing experience delivered at sea. \nAs previously\, we need a great crowd and sponsorships to make this event a success. Attendance will be free of charge and by invitation only. Our members are welcome to bring one guest per person\, and please register your and your guest’s attendance \n

SUMMARY:May Lunch - Presentation on Trinity House
DESCRIPTION:Trinity House presentation with film and pictures.\nHave you ever wondered who looks after the major lighthouses around England\, Wales and the Channel Islands? How did they came to be there in the first place?\nThis historic organisation\, incorporated by Royal Charter by Henry VIII in the 1500s\, is still here today as a vital part of Britain’s maritime community. \nIn addition to owning and operating lighthouses\, lightvessels\, beacons and buoys to keep safe all mariners at sea around our shores\, Trinity House is called in to mark—and clear if required—wrecks\, help develop state of the art electronic navigation tools for vessels of all sizes to overcome the vulnerabilities of GPS\, and to act as Nautical Assesors in Admiralty Court cases. \nAdd to that a sizeable maritime fraternity which regularly advises on current maritime issues and future opportunities\, and a charitable side that donates in excess of £5m a year to worthy maritime causes\, and you start to get a picture of the current day Trinity House. \nOur lunch tickets cost £50 per person.
